Today we had the opportunity to start our day with a tour of Quebec City. While we saw many sights on our tour, my favorite view was of the gorgeous architecture of the city. This picture shows one sight that we had the opportunity to see closeup. This gorgeous building is the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. While we were not told the exact history of this building, it is a reflection of the city’s architecture and a central location in old Quebec City. The left side of the photograph shows an overlook where passersby can see the St-Laurent river as well as the rolling hills across its banks. The hotel is also located next to the lift that transports visitors between upper Quebec City and lower Quebec City.

Later on in the afternoon we were able to visit La Citadelle de Quebec which is an active military garrison in Quebec City that is also home to the Governor General of Canada. While the 22 Regiment trains outside of the Citadelle, the Citadelle maintains traditions such as ceremonies and changing of the guards and showcases the rich history of Canada and its leadership throughout its occupancy. The city of Quebec was occupied by France then England then gained its independence as a Canadian province. This photograph shows the gate to the Citadelle as well as the moat surrounding it. The crest shown above the gate represents the history of the garrison and holds the phrase “Je me souviens” meaning “I remember” denoting the sentiment that the soldiers remember the lives of their fellow soldiers that were lost.
